Minister of State (MoS) for Home Nityanand Rai informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the government has decided to fill up 84,405 open positions in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) by the end of 2023.

In a written reply to BJP MP Anil Agarwal, the minister said that the examination has already been conducted to fill up 25,271 constable (general duty) posts. As per the information provided by the MoS, there are 84,405 vacancies in CAPFs, which include Assam Rifles (9,659), Border Security Force (19,254), Central Industrial Security Force (10,918), Central Reserve Police Force (29,985). -Tibetan Border Police (3,187), and Sashastra Seema Bal (11,402).

However, as per the information provided by the MoS, the combined sanctioned strength of these forces-Assam Rifles, BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB is 10,05,779.

Rai said that the government has taken several steps to fill up the vacancies in CAPFs expeditiously.

According to the minister a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Staff Selection Commission and those phases, and one of them is for the annual recruitment process for the position of Constable (General Duty) (SSC).

According to Rai, a nodal force has been designated for the recruitment of Constable (General Duty), Sub-Inspector (GD) or Assistant Sub-Inspector (Executive), and Assistant Commandant (General Duty) on a long-term basis.

He said that all the Central Armed Police Forces and the Assam Rifles have been directed to make timely efforts to fill up open positions in the non-general duty cadre.
The Minister also informed about the holding of meetings by the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) immediately to fill up the vacancies for promotion.
